Nepean MP and Prime Minister Mark Carney launched an $8.8-billion Canada-Ontario Municipal Development Charge Reduction Program on June 1 at a Caivan homebuilding site in Nepean. The program removes the 13% HST on new Ontario homes valued up to $1 million and offers infrastructure funding to municipalities that cut their development charges by at least 30%. Ottawa and other Ontario municipalities can now apply; the stated goal is to lower the cost of building new homes.
