Prime Minister and Nepean MP Mark Carney’s constituency site says he launched the $8.8-billion Canada-Ontario Municipal Development Charge Reduction Program at a Caivan building site in his riding on June 1, with the local update posted June 15. The program is meant to lower homebuilding costs by giving municipalities access to infrastructure funding when they reduce development charges; the same update says the Ontario program would also remove the 13 per cent HST on new homes valued up to $1 million. For South Nepean readers, the local hook is direct: the announcement was staged in the riding and is aimed at the housing-cost pressures shaping Barrhaven’s growth.
