Barrhaven Canada Day fireworks future in doubt after organizers step back

Canada Day Barrhaven Inc. says the 2026 fireworks display has been cancelled rather than postponed after the July 1 rainstorm, and that its current executive and committee will not organize the 2027 celebration. The volunteer-run non-profit says the event faces a financial shortfall and leadership gap after 44 years; it is encouraging any new group that wants to revive the celebration to form a not-for-profit before September so it can apply for Canadian Heritage funding when applications open in October.
