Barrhaven's two city council races are contested. In Ward 3 Barrhaven West, incumbent David Hill — who filed on May 12 and launched his re-election campaign site last week — is now facing Donna Blackburn, the long-serving Ottawa-Carleton District School Board trustee, who filed her nomination papers on July 6. Blackburn told CBC her move is 'a natural progression' after 16 years as a trustee, a role the province has stripped of much of its power. In Ward 24 Barrhaven East, incumbent Wilson Lo faces three challengers: Zahy A Adam, Jules Ruhinda and Yoosaf Melparamba. Six candidates have now been certified across the two wards. Nominations close August 21, and election day is October 26. The Bugle is listing every certified candidate in both wards, updated daily, and will keep doing so through the campaign.
