The Barrhaven Bugle is independently owned and published in Barrhaven. No chain, no head office, no paywall. These are the standards we hold ourselves to — and how to hold us to them.
Sourcing
- Our reporting works from primary sources: City of Ottawa notices and agendas, OC Transpo, Ottawa Public Health, school boards, Engage Ottawa, the Barrhaven BIA, official event listings, and people who speak to us directly.
- Every story links to where the information came from, so you can check our work.
- We do not rewrite other outlets’ original reporting and present it as our own.
How the Bugle is produced
The Bugle is a small operation that makes heavy use of AI and automation tools — to monitor public sources around the clock, draft stories from them, and assemble the website and newsletter. Editorial judgment, final review, and accountability rest with the publisher. The tools change what a small local outlet can cover; they don’t change who answers for it. If we get something wrong, the corrections policy applies in full.
Quotes, interviews, and profiles
- Quotes come only from people who gave them to the Bugle — in writing or on the record. We never generate, invent, or paraphrase words into someone’s mouth.
- Business and community profile subjects see their draft before it publishes.
- Photos of people and businesses run only with the owner’s permission.
Independence and sponsorship
- Coverage is not for sale. Sponsors do not see, shape, or veto stories.
- Sponsored placements are always labelled as such.
- A business being profiled, listed, or covered is never conditioned on advertising — and never buys favourable treatment.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix the record and say so. See the corrections page or email [email protected].
Community submissions
Community events are listed free via the event submission page. News tips go to [email protected] — we read everything, verify before publishing, and never reveal a source without permission.
